Bailee's story

Bailee made a really big decision after attending the Diabetes New Zealand Youth Camp in Canterbury - one that has given her more independence…

“I decided to get a pump after going to the Diabetes Youth Camp in Canterbury. Everyone there had one, and I saw how easy it was for them to eat what they wanted without lots of injections,” said 9 year-old Bailee, who was diagnosed with diabetes when she was 7.

For some tamariki and rangatahi, the decision to have a pump or not can be a tricky one, and it can lead to disagreements with parents and caregivers. Bailee has had her pump for a year, and it’s been a really positive change…

“Now that I have one, my levels are so much better and I feel way more independent. I love my pump – especially the cool belts I get to wear with it!”
