Project Partners Programme:

Help us fund world-class research

The Diabetes New Zealand Research Foundation invites visionary partners to join us in funding ground-breaking research aimed at improving the wellbeing of thousands of New Zealanders.

Why partner with us?

We are Aotearoa’s largest non-government supporter of diabetes research. Since our launch in 2022, we’ve been dedicated to transforming lives through world-class research, conducted by New Zealanders, for New Zealanders. But we need you to take our mission further.

Your impact

• Combat a growing epidemic: With diabetes rates skyrocketing in New Zealand and the economic burden climbing to $3.5 billion annually, your contribution fuels innovative solutions to this national health crisis.

• Empower communities: Help bridge critical gaps in diabetes care for Māori, Asian, Pacific, tamariki, and rangatahi populations disproportionately affected by this chronic condition.

• Foster excellence: Your investment strengthens New Zealand’s globally respected research community, ensuring future breakthroughs in diabetes care and prevention.

Make your mark

Less than 1% of diabetes care funding in New Zealand is spent on research—this is a staggering gap that demands action. Together, we can ensure that health research transforms lives and delivers real-world health and economic benefits.

Your partnership matters

No fixed budget means every dollar you give goes directly to funding vital research projects. You’ll receive updates about how your generosity is driving real change in the lives of people affected by diabetes.

Success Stories

In 2024 the inaugural Diabetes New Zealand Research Foundation Fellowship was awarded to Elizabeth Lewis-Hills, a Clinical Nurse Specialist in Diabetes in pregnancy at Waikato Regional Diabetes Services.

“My motivation stems from my extensive experience as a Clinical Nurse Specialist in Diabetes in Pregnancy at Waikato Regional Diabetes Services. Witnessing firsthand the challenges faced by Māori wāhine in this context, I felt compelled to make a difference. My own background as a wife, māmā of four rangatahi, and my Māori and Thai whakapapa further fuelled my dedication to address the disparities and work towards better health outcomes for this community.” - Elizabeth Lewis-Hills
