Project Partners Programme:

Invest in online learning and support tools

We’re on a mission to transform diabetes management in New Zealand. By developing innovative, engaging online learning and support tools, we aim to empower individuals with knowledge, confidence, and the means to live healthier, fuller lives. Our vision is to make life-changing resources available at the touch of a button—anytime, anywhere.

Why this matters

For too many, a diabetes diagnosis comes with limited access to guidance and support. Health services can be patchy, expensive, and inaccessible for those in rural areas, for those who can’t afford to visit a doctor or are unable to take time off work. This leaves countless individuals isolated, confused, and resigned to their condition. We believe every New Zealander deserves equal access to the tools and resources to take charge of their health.

The solution: Revolutionary online support tools

With your partnership, we will:

• Create dynamic, interactive courses covering all types of diabetes, including pre-diabetes.

• Build user-friendly content that teaches individuals how to manage their health and navigate the healthcare system.

• Establish online support communities to ensure no one feels alone or overwhelmed after their diagnosis.

These resources will complement—not replace—existing health services and our in-person community work, ensuring a comprehensive network of support for everyone who needs it.

Phase one: Let’s get started

To kickstart this transformative project, we’re looking for Project Partners who can fund the initial $10,000 we need to scope out the best technological platform to host our courses.

We will then move into the development stage to take our knowledge and develop interactive, easy-to-digest content that anyone can access. And we’ll create opportunities for people to connect online and support each other in their wellness journeys. Together, we can reach thousands of New Zealanders, providing them with the knowledge to thrive.

The impact—George’s story

Meet George Smith, a 54-year-old from Gisborne, who discovered he had diabetes after suffering a stroke. Through our six-week self-management course, George learned how to adapt his diet, read food labels, and control his blood sugar levels. His health has significantly improved, and he’s now managing his condition with confidence.

“The first session really blew me away. We were told about what diabetes is, what causes it and why it’s so important that it’s managed. I felt really emotional because I had been diagnosed with pre-diabetes , but I had no idea how serious that was.”

“I’ve learnt how to read food packaging and how to adapt my cooking, how to get the right balance of protein and carbohydrates and I’ve realised that I can still really enjoy food and feel satisfied. For breakfast I have three Weetbix with probiotic yoghurt and a few blueberries. I would never have eaten that in the past, but I really enjoy it. I understand how different foods affect my blood sugar levels, and I know now how to control this. Before my stroke I had no idea. I never really thought about food. I had always walked long distances for my work, so I was pretty fit, and my weight wasn’t too bad. I just never really understood the danger I was in.”- George Smith

George’s success underscores the importance of making these resources accessible to everyone—not just those who can attend face-to-face courses.
