Our office is open Monday to Thursday from 9.00-12.00. Anyone can call in, whether a member or not and ask for support, assistance and information about diabetes.
Diabetes NZ Waikato sells various products to assist with self-managing diabetes: blood glucose testers and lancets, glucose sweets for hypoglycaemia (low blood sugars), diabetes cook books and socks. We know there are times you need to talk through things, ask questions or need a little extra time to for things to be explained. We offer confidential and private one on one consultations with our Field Officer either via phone or face to face. Diabetes Youth Waikato aims to offer support to those under the age of 25 and their family/whanau living with diabetes.
We are part of Diabetes NZ Waikato Branch and have a separate committee dedicated solely to youth activities so that they are never alone in their journey, helping to raise awareness; not just around the education of type 1 to the public, but for Type 1’s.
Te Awamutu Diabetes Support group: For all type of diabetes and pre-diabetes. Every second Tuesday of the month. Methodist Church Te Awamutu. From 10:30 to 12:00pm
Putaruru Support group: First Tuesday every second month. For all types of Diabetes and pre-diabetes and relatives. Overdale Community Centre Putaruru. From 1:30 to 3:00pm
Type 1 Diabetes support group: second Wednesday of the month. RSA club Hamilton 6:30 to 8:30 pm. For all type 1 using or not new technologies. This group also includes medical staff who are type 1 and come as ‘people with type 1 diabetes’.
Hamilton Diabetes support group fourth Tuesday of the month. For all types of Diabetes and pre-diabetes as well as their relatives. third Tuesday of the month. From 10:00 to 12:00 noon. We meet in the RSA Club in Hamilton.
Waikato Forum Group: Every third Tuesday of the month. For all community base providers dealing with chronic diseases e.g. Heart foundations, Blind foundation, Endometriosis Waikato, Autism Waikato, Stroke Foundation, among others. From 10:00 am to 12:30 noon. Each provider provides input on new technologies, advances or just simply referrals of people who have any other condition as well as the one the provider cares for.
We also help running the Huntly and Thames diabetes support meetings twice a year.
Family Support: We also run family support meetings with clients and relatives . This is organised when a client makes a request and we see the need and possibility to help.
