The first port of call for New Zealanders with diabetes, those at risk and their families.
Diabetes New Zealand has produced a new resource for people with Type 2 diabetes called Staying well with Type 2 diabetes. Following feedback about the usefulness of all our smaller pamphlets, this is now our only resource for Type 2 diabetes and any complications, but, of course, we do still have our very popular nutrition resource, diabetes and healthy food choices.
You can order our pamphlets from Diabetes Supplies Ltd, phone 0800 342 238, and see our full range of pamphlets here.
Diabetes Awareness Week 18-24 November 2008
Through National Diabetes Week, Diabetes New Zealand aims to promote awreness of diabetes and the role of Diabetes New Zealand. Diabetes New Zealand's vision is that all people with diabetes, in New Zealand, are the best managed in the world and have the best health care.
Diabetes Awareness Week will focus on Type 2 diabetes but have a broader theme of diabetes and youth. We want to foster an environment that creates families and communities free of Type 2 diabetes and to help those who do have a family member with Type 2 diabetes effect change through healthy choices. Unless there are changes to our society's habits and perceptions around diet, lifestyle and exercise, the environemnt that is currently producing a future epidemic of diabetes will continue to do so.
What will New Zealand be like in 2025 with the high incidence of diabetes?
Diabetes New Zealand invited a selection of New Zealanders to predict what diabetes will be like in this country in 2025.
The opinions from clinicians, politicians, economists and others range from a change in definition to a change in environment.
