Support: Phone helpline open daily, Information Centre with flyers, pamphlets and other detailed information. Support Groups across Greater Auckland, Silver Medal Club celebrating those 50 years on insulin. Youth: Programmes for youth, including children's, teenagers' and parents' camps. Education and Help: Introductory courses for newly-diagnosed, including supermarket shopping tips , healthy eating advice and guidance, physical activity - how to keep yourself fit. Prevention: 'Healthy Options =Postive Eating' ( HOPE) courses run at-risk communities in association with schools. Awarenesss: Talks given to companies, community organisations and others to raise awareness about diabetes and how to avoid it. Events: Appearance at a range of external events to raise the profile of diabetes. Staff Training: training in Corporates or other institutions ( eg. Rest Homes) to enhance awareness and knowledge about diabetes and its management. Information: Dia-Log (quarterly magazine), website - see above, videos / books lending library, automatic membership of Diabetes New Zealand and receipt of quarterly magazine 'Diabetes'. Shop: (open weekdays 9-5pm, Saturdays 9-12 noon, except bank holiday weekends) Purchase of blood testing equipment and training help, recipe books, foot care products, other diabetes supplies including food and treats, gift baskets. Advocacy: Representing the interests of those with diabetes. Other: Quarterly members' meetings with qualified speakers. |
