Applications For Diabetes NZ Independent Board Member

    Diabetes New Zealand Inc is seeking applications for an Independent Board Member.

    An Independent Board Member must be a person who, at the time of their appointment is determined by the Board, to be capable of providing areas of competency that the Board seeks to fill and be capable of adding value to Diabetes NZ and to the Board through their skills and background (which may include governance, strategic planning, health sector leadership, financial, accounting, commercial, information systems, legal, marketing, sales or other commercial or not for profit experience and preferably an affinity with the not for profit sector). An Independent Board Member cannot be an employee of Diabetes NZ.

    An Independent Board Member must, during their term, be either a Full Member or a Life Member of Diabetes NZ.

    How are independent Board members appointed?

    The Board is responsible for selecting and appointing independent members. The Board is able to determine its own process for identifying, assessing and appointing independent members, but the process must include calling publicly for applications.

    What skills is the Board looking for in an independent member?

    An independent member must be a person who the Board thinks is capable of providing areas of competency that the Board seeks. This could be, for example, governance, strategic planning, health sector leadership, accounting, commercial, information systems, legal, marketing or other relevant areas.

    Who can apply?

    Anyone can apply so long as they are a full member of Diabetes NZ during their term as a Board member, and are not an employee of Diabetes NZ.

    When will the Board make a decision?

    The Board will consider all applications received and make a decision before the Diabetes NZ AGM on 31 October 2015. The Board will inform all applicants of the outcome of their application before publicly announcing the successful candidate.

     How has the vacancy arisen?

    There is currently a vacancy for an independent Board member because the constitution requires one of the independent Board members to stand down at each AGM. They can stand again so long as they do not serve over the maximum time a Board member may serve.An Independent Board Member must, during their term, be either a Full Member or a Life Member of Diabetes NZ.
