Diabetes New Zealand is the proud partner of the FABruary 2016 launch in New Zealand – a campaign designed to raise awareness of the obesity epidemic and the health related risks. With 1 in 4 New Zealanders estimated to have pre-diabetes, Diabetes NZ needs all New Zealanders to understand that a person’s risk of progressing from pre-diabetes to type 2 diabetes can be roughly halved if they lose weight, change their diet and increase their exercise.

    What is FABruary?

FABruary stands for the Fight Against Bulge and is a month long commitment during February which was first launched by Clinton Toopi in 2015 in Australia.

Ambassadors sign up to make pledges in three main areas – FOOD, physical ACTIVITY and BEVERAGES.

Every day too many New Zealanders are consuming foods and beverages that contribute to obesity and not doing enough physical activity. Studies now show that making lifestyle changes in these areas can help prevent or delay type 2 diabetes and can lead to longer, healthier lives.

If you don’t have a Fitbit, we will posting progress reports on our facebook page on a regular basis

    How do I support FABruary?

Next year (February 2017), we will be inviting all of New Zealand to join in with FABruary and to make their own pledges. But for this year, you can start by introducing some small steps to make BIG changes through your food and beverage choices and increasing your physical activity.

You can also cheer on the FABruary Ambassadors and help them raise some much needed funds to support Diabetes NZ and the 257,000 people with diabetes in New Zealand.
